About Amarwara

Located in Satpura valley, Amarwara is a town in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. Located around 40 kms from Chhindwara district headquarters, it is the oldest tehsil in the district. The town is well known for its rich forest and natural resources. The town is very peaceful and has a huge market for Chironji, a famous dry fruit that is supplied all over India from here. The town attracts attention of tourists for its serene location.

Geography of Amarwara

Amarwara is located 22.3°N and 79.17°E with an average elevation of 2611 feet or 796 meters. The town is located on National Highway 26-B on Narsinghpur-Chhindwara Road being well connected by road. With current population of around 20000, the town is a nagar palika parishad. One can also hop on a flight to reach the city with nearest airports being Nagpur and Jabalpur. The city has an average literacy rate of 78% which is much higher than national average of 59.5%. The city has a pleasant weather, the best time to visit being October - November.

History and Culture of Amarwara

Johan and Alexina Ruthquist were missionaries in Amarwara in 1860s. Being the oldest tehsil of Chhindwara district, the town is mostly populated by scheduled tribe people. Amidst beautiful forest of Satpura, there are many historical and popular temples in the town of Amarwara that people often love to visit on their trip to Chhindwara. 

Tourism of Amarwara

There are many popular tourist spots in and around Amarwara including Pindrai, Patan, Raini, Tendukheda, Bil-Pathar and Shahpura. Some of the famous temples in the town are Sai Mandir, Shree Ram Mandir, Jagatdev Mandir, Sharda Mandir and Police Line Temple. There are also many other tourist destinations in Chhindwara district that are worth visiting. Lilahi Water Fall is one such place that noone can afford to miss. Located in downstream of the river 'Kanhan', it gives a soothing feeling to anyone visiting here. This is one of the best sightseeing with waterfall surrounded by mountain cliffs. The Neelkanthi temple is another such popular destination that is well known for its excellent art work. The entry gate to the main temple is known to date back between 7th and 10th century.
